Alzheimer's Association to present free webinar for caregivers and health professionals

Apr. 24—GRAND FORKS — The Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota is offering a free webinar Friday, April 26, to help dementia caregivers and health professionals manage ongoing grief and loss.

Open to the public, the virtual presentation, titled "The Daily Work of Grief: Reflections and Healing," is set for 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sign up online at

"Going through the journey of caring for someone with Alzheimer's or another dementia can bring different kinds of grief and loss," said Beth Olson, program manager with the Alzheimer's Association. "During this healing discussion, we'll share strategies to cope with these feelings, real-world examples and practical tips to navigate the complicated emotions and misconceptions."

The speakers will cover topics including: what ambiguous loss and anticipatory grief look like; how grief, bereavement and depression can overlap; common themes of loss with older adults and caregivers; coping and self-care strategies; and Alzheimer's Association resources.

Presenters will be Alyssa Aguirre, with the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Dell Medical School, and Mary Heil, with the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota.
